This is an awesome event for runners, walkers and even spectators looking to cheer on this year's participants. This article will break down the schedule for 2024, talk about some of the fun events, and tell the story of Ottawa Race Weekend 2024.

50 Years of Running in Ottawa

This year marks the 50th Ottawa Marathon being run. This race began in May 1975 and has been a staple in the Ottawa calendar ever since. The first race saw under 200 participants but has grown into one the largest mass participation events in the country. this year an estimated 100,000 participants will be in attendance to cheer on our runners. Be a part of this excellent event that showcases Ottawa on an international stage. Many news and media personalities will be there to document the event and witness the very best that our city has to offer.

Qualify For The Boston Marathon

One of the reasons why Ottawa is such an important race is because it is considered one of the top races to qualify for the Boston Marathon. To run in the Boston Marathon runners must complete  a race that is accredited by USA Track and Field, Association for International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), or a national governing body for distance running for the country in which the race is held. Ottawa is a race that has been credited and confirmed to be valid for qualifying. Racers must qualify based on their category. Categories exist for age ranges as well as for men, women, and non-binary runners. Keep an eye out for runners looking to qualify for the Boston Marathon as this will be a significant day for them as they chase their goal. Ottawa is not far from Boston and will attract manny runners from surrounding areas making this an international affair with out-of-town marathoners looking to set personal records and run after their dreams.
