6 Tips for Organizing Your Home
Numerous studies have shown evidence of the link between an organized living space and improved peace of mind. De-cluttering your house can help reduce stress and energize your home. This will, in turn, energize you. Here are 6 tips for de-cluttering your home!
1. Start Small
Eliminating clutter can feel overwhelming if you try to take it all on at once. Start slowly with 5-10 minute periods each day. Focus on a small space and move outward from that point. After a week or two clutter will start to go down and you will be able to tackle the rest of your home more easily.
2. Take Before and After Photos
This will help you to track your progress and give you a sense of accomplishment as you work through your home. This can also help you think about what the space looks like from another perspective. Seeing the space in a photo will give you a different vantage point and allow you to tackle the mess with fresh eyes.
3. Rule of 3
This rule will be your guide you through the cleanup. The rule is for organizing your stuff into 3 groups. One group for stuff you will be keeping. 1 group for stuff you will be donating. 1 Group for stuff that you will be throwing out. This will help you to organize yourself when you’re not sure what to do with something.
4. Invest in Storage
Out of sight, out of mind. There are plenty of smart affordable storage solutions. These can be shelving units, boxes, benches. Whatever your style there are plenty of smart storage solutions that will help you eliminate clutter and save space. Having storage will eliminate clutter and make your house feel bigger.
5. Donating Doesn’t Have to Mean Donating
You may find that you no longer have use for a perfectly good item. You could donate this to a thrift shop or a friend. You could also use the opportunity to make a little rainy day cash. Check on eBay to see if any of your unwanted items are worth selling.
6. If You Don’t Love It, Let It Go
We can become incredibly attached to items for numerous reasons and getting rid of them can sometimes be difficult. If possible hold each item for a second. Ask yourself if it brings you joy. If the answer is no, then it’s time to let it go.
