HOCKEY NIC HAMRE
Team Celebrates 40th Victory!

Super Bowl Sunday celebrations started early for the Wild’s Minor Bantam AAA team.

The team extended their regular season non-losing streak to “Sweet 16” (14-0-2) by defeating the Ottawa Valley Titans 3-1, early Sunday afternoon at Kinburn Arena.

The win enabled the Wild to clinch the title as the 2010/2011 OEMHL-AAA Minor Bantam League Champions.  With two regular season games remaining, the Ottawa Senators who are in 2nd place with 35 points, are unable to topple the Wild’s 1st place 41 point total.

Prior to Sunday’s game, the Wild’s dressing room was filled with curiosity as forward Nic Hamre performed his own rendition of “Show & Tell”. Nic presented his newly acquired Walmart hockey stick.  Nic broke both his sticks at the teams’ Saturday evening practice and, with his parents out-of-town, the only store that his aunt could find open early Sunday morning was Walmart.

Prior to the pre-game warm-up, the stick was blessed by team-mate, Liam Murray, who stated that the stick should now be good for a hat-trick.

Following the game, the coaching staff presented Nic with the game puck as he blasted home all 3 goals, representing a very memorable natural hat-trick!

Head coach, Steve Malette, stated that this is a perfect example It is not the stick that makes a player, it’s the player behind the stick”.

The Minor Bantam’s overall tournament and regular season record now stands at an impressive 40-8-7 and they are looking forward to continued success in the upcoming playoffs!
