Late lift boosts housing numbers

Builders started work on 820 units in December alone, bringing construction action during the fourth quarter of the year to a 24-year record. For all of 2009, however, Ottawa's 5,813 housing starts were 17 per cent lower than a year earlier, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. said Monday.
